iPhone Camera is Not Working

In general, users have reported the following problems with iPhone Camera or the Camera App on iPhone.

The Camera shows a Black Screen The Camera Flash is delayed or does not sync with the Shots The Camera App appears to be lagging The Camera App is stuck or frozen Certain Camera Functions like Flash or HDR are missing

Irrespective of the model of iPhone, you should be able to fix above problems using troubleshooting steps as provided below.

1. Force Close Camera App

Most of the times, the problem of the Camera being stuck or iPhone Camera displaying a black screen is usually due to the Camera App not loading properly. This can be fixed by force closing the Camera App and launching it back again. To do this, press the Home button twice and dismiss the Camera App by swiping-up from bottom of the screen. If your iPhone does not have a Home button, press the Power button and dismiss the Camera App by swiping it up.

2. Switch Cameras

If the Camera App appears to be glitchy or sluggish, try switching from Front to Rear Camera (or vice versa).

Tap on the Switcher Icon > Wait for 10 seconds and then tap on the Switcher Icon again to return back to the Camera that you want to use.

3. Switch Flashlight ON/OFF

If the Camera Flash is not working or not syncing with the shots, close the Camera > open Control Center and tap on the Flashlight icon.

After a while, open the Control Center again and tap on the Flashlight icon to close the Flashlight.

4. Restart iPhone

Sometimes, the problem is due to stuck Apps and processes interfering with proper functioning of the Camera App. Go to Settings > General > scroll down and tap on Shut Down.

This will bring up the Slide-to-Power OFF screen, use the Slider to Power OFF iPhone. Allow iPhone to completely Shut Down > Wait for 30 seconds > Restart iPhone and see if the Camera is now working.

5. Turn OFF VoiceOver

The VoiceOver feature is known to interfere with proper functioning of the Camera App. Go to Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver and move the toggle next to VoiceOver to OFF position.

Now, try to access the Camera on your iPhone and you should find it working properly.

6. Install Updates

Make sure that your device is up to date with the latest Software Updates. Go to Settings > General > tap on Software Update.

On the next screen, tap on Download and Install (in case an Update is available) and follow the instructions to install the updates.

7. Reset All Settings

If above methods did not help, Reset All Settings on your device to Factory Default Settings and see if this helps in fixing the problem. This step will erase your WiFi Network Password, but it will not erase any data from your device. Hence, note down your WiFi Password and follow the steps below to Reset All Settings on your device. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > On the pop-up, select Reset All Settings option.

After iPhone restarts, you will be required to join WiFi Network by entering your WiFi Network Password.
