Some of the Important Windows Specs
Once you reach the About page inside the Settings app, you will be greeted with a lot of information. That may confuse you. Here is what they mean: Edition: It refers to the specific version of Windows you’re using on your computer. There are several editions of Windows, such as Windows Home, Windows Pro, Windows Enterprise, and Windows Education, and each edition has its own set of features and capabilities. For example, Windows Home Edition is more suitable for home users who require basic features such as web browsing, email, and document editing. On the other hand, if you need additional features like BitLocker Encryption, Group Policy Editor, or advanced securities, you will need Windows Pro Edition. Version: It lets you know which version of Windows update is installed. For example, the 22H2 version means it was released in the year 2022 (22) in the 2nd half of the year (H2). So if the update was released in the first half, it would be 22H1 instead. OS Build: As the name suggests, it lets you know the specific build number of the Windows version. It is updated every time even if a new minor update is installed on your computer. You can use this OS build number to look for and troubleshoot any specific issue you are encountering with your Windows system. Build numbers are small updates released in between major updates which, as we noted, reflect in the Version number. Build numbers are less significant than version numbers but may come in handy. Experience Packs: Microsoft offers additional features that are personal in nature via Experience Packs that, as the name suggests, improve the users’ experience. Some features include themes, wallpapers, icons, some app updates, etc. These are not part of the core updates and hence can be updated and installed independently from the main Windows OS like versions or builds. Microsoft introduced them with 20H2 in Windows 10.
How Do I Know What Windows Version or Build I Have
Finding the Windows version and build number is easy, but understanding their use case is not. Knowing the specifications of your software and hardware can be helpful in troubleshooting any known issues with Windows, ensuring compatibility with software and games, checking for available features, and more.
